Where is Nnamdi Kanu? IPOB leader fails to attend treason trial

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of
Biafra (IPOB), has failed to appear before the federal
high court in Abuja for his resumed trial.

Three co-defendants who are being tried alongside
Kanu for alleged treason were present at the court
Tuesday. They are Chidiebere Onwudiwe, national
coordinator of IPOB, Benjamin Madubugwu, and David
Nwawuisi.

They were brought in by prison officials amid tight
security at about 10am.

Binta Nyako, the judge handling the case, had granted
Kanu bail in April.

He was meant to re-appear before the court at its
resumed sitting but the IPOB leader has not been seen
since soldiers raided his Abia residence in September.

His lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had told TheCable on
Monday he believed the government would bring him
to court to face his trial on Tuesday.

“We have filed a suit at the court asking the federal
government to produce him in court,” he said.

“It is obvious they will bring him to court tomorrow.

They are holding him. They know where he is. I am
fully convinced they will bring him to court.”
