Controversial US rapper Azealia Banks has been dropped from a British musical festival after posting several racist and homophobic insults aimed at UK star Zayn Malik.

Organisers of the Rinse Born & Bred Music Festival, to be held in London next month, issued a statement on Wednesday explaining they had cancelled the star's performance following the Twitter outburst.

“We have decided to cancel Azealia Bank's headline appearance at Rinse Born & Bred. Rinse Born & Bred is a celebration of rave culture and has been created for EVERYONE. We celebrate inclusivity and equality," the statement read.
The decision comes after UK grime DJ, Sama had previously threatened to boycott the festival if Azealia stayed on as headliner.
Azealia Banks drew widespread criticism earlier this week when she launched a tirade of homophobic, racist and offensive tweets at UK popstars Zayn Malik and the UK grime scene.
The 212 star issued a statement following the incident, in which she refused to apologise for insulting Zayn and said that her comments were a reminder that both stars were "in the same boat" and seen as "other" by the music industry.

She later went on to reveal that she has had to resist the urge to say "loads more terrible things to each and every one of yous" in the wake of the controversy.
