On Sunday, Novak Djokovic won the 2023 French Open men’s singles title with a victory over Casper Ruud.
The 36-year-old now ranks first, replacing the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
The Serbian won the first set 7-6 with an easy forehand, then won the second set 6-3 and the third set 7-5, all against Ruud.
Djokovic won at least three championships at each Grand Slam tournament, making him the first man to do so and bringing his total to 23, one short of Margaret Court’s record.
With this victory, Djokovic surpasses Rafael Nadal as the all-time leader in men’s major slam titles.
Djokovic has won ten Grand Slam tournaments, the first being the 2008 Australian Open.
He also owns three of US Open championships and seven at Wimbledon.
After beating the Norwegian 7-6, 6-3, 7-5, Djokovic won his record-setting 23rd Grand Slam championship.
