We claim and act as though entering a lift is a bad thing. Some even associate it with prostitution, crime, and other negative agenda but if you ask me – sometimes this can be the only way out.

I remember in 2004, my experience changed the way I judge people who pick a lift. It was a windy and cold winter night. I took the last train from London Bridge to Abbeywood, South East London. I arrived at Abbey wood train station precisely 12:45 am, few minutes after midnight. I stepped out of the train station heading to the bus stop when I sighted the bus 469 from afar, then I began to run towards the bus and motioned my hands at the bus driver to stop but unfortunately, he didn’t notice me.
Everywhere was dark and extremely windy like it was about to rain in a cold winter of about -10C. On getting to the bus stop, I realize that was the last bus 469 and I had to wait for the night bus which was going to arrive approximately 55mins time, I couldn’t get a taxi because I was only left with a pound in my wallet. I was very confused, scared and cold and sooner than anticipated it began to rain heavily.
This was a night I could never forget, shortly after the rain begun, a mint green Audi A6 pulled over to my side, flashing me to come over. First, I was scared but on a second thought, I also wasn’t comfortable with the boys smoking, drinking and swearing at the bus stop. I quickly rushed towards the car and said hello and the gentle looking man offered to give me a lift, immediately I said no thank you, but he insisted – my lady it is dangerous out there with those boys staring at you in a funny way. Intensely I weighed my options and agreed for a lift, luckily for me it turned out to be a better option. I got home safe and on time. I remember while on the ride, he asked me for my number and I was left with no choice. After that day he started calling me and offering to take me out on a date. If you have a different experience share it with us.
