Rivers United thrash KCCA of Uganda in CAF Confederation Cup

Rivers United defeated 10-man KCCA of Uganda in
a CAF Confederation Cup match at the Yakubu Gowon
Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

Early goals from Bernard Ovoke and Fredrick
Obomate put Rivers United on the front foot.

Geoffrey Serunkuma reduced the hosts’ goal tally on
the stroke of half-time.

KCCA’s Habib Kavuma was sent off for a second
yellow card in the 89th minute – making it difficult for
the visitors to muster a comeback.

The 2-1 win sees Nigeria’s remaining representative
on the continent move to the second position in Group
A.

United will remain second if Club Africain fail to secure
maximum points against FUS Rabat later on Tuesday.

The Port Harcourt-based team will face Club Africain
at home on July 2.

Group A standings after Rivers United game
FUS Rabat – 6pts (+3)
Rivers United -6pts (-1)
KCCA FC – 6pts (-2)
Club Africain – 3pts (0)
