Awka the capital of Anambra state, is one of the oldest settlement in
Igboland located between two major cities in northern Igboland, Onitsha and
Enugu. A city with colleges, universities, and a number of federal institutions
including the Central Bank of Nigeria(which has a currency centre in Awka) also
present in the city is PinkPearl Beauty
Home, a thriving organization owned by Geraldine Uyamadu. A vibrant beauty innovator with immense
transformation ability.
On this week's edition, Geraldine Uyamadu told Godfrey Times that White collar jobs are nowhere to be found now and encouraged the youths to create one for themselves.
Godfrey Times: Pioneer readers of Godfrey Times are familiar with the
name Pinkpearl, having seen both the advertorial and introductory articles of
Pinkpearl Beauty Home on this Platform but for the interest of our most recent readers,
could you kindly tell us about Pinkpearl?
Miss Uyamadu: Pinkpearl is a human being lol. I am an individual
that loves looking great, same with the people around me. Am from Anambra state
and am also a dental technologist and a volleyball player.
Godfrey Times: What
jumpstarted your perspective into this trending innovation of transforming
people’s beauty?
Miss Uyamadu: Actually my mum has always been my inspiration,
knowing how beautiful she is, when she dresses up and adds some beauty products
on her face though light and not the full package of contouring and
highlighting, full lip lining etc. The trending make-up rules now, I always
steal her lipsticks and eye pencils then apply on my face when she is out. As
time went on, I noticed it’s an avenue to also make money and create jobs for
the youths so I joined the trend and it has been wonderful.
Godfrey Times: Being that Nigerians are innovative entrepreneurs and
with the strength of our greatness, we flourish wherever we are and you are
obviously flourishing here in Awka…as a young entrepreneur, you have made
things happen despite the odds and Pinkpearl Beauty Home is furthering on
approvingly well. How has it been with you right from the start of this
esteemed business of yours?
Miss Uyamadu: It wasn’t easy at the beginning being that I didn’t
school or grow up here in Awka but it’s been said that stars are not hidden,
one way or the other and with the help of God and friends I scaled through and
I can’t thank God enough for that.
Godfrey Times: Back in Lagos the economic capital of the West African
sub-region, this profession is among the list of thriving businesses…could the
same story be said here in Awka?
Miss Uyamadu: Yes it is because women are everywhere, no woman
wants to be ugly these days. Be it single or married, young or old. So it’s not
just for Lagos only, it’s all around the world.
Godfrey Times: What
are the benefits and opportunities in this profession?
Miss Uyamadu: When you’re fulfilled that your clients say; thank
you very much – my friends like the face beat. Nothing is more fun to hear
that. The benefits differs anyway, because I might be thinking differently from
others. You meet beautiful people and arrogant ones oo (hahahaha) clients
introduce you to friends, the high and mighty people apart from the business
can help you differently in the future because of the day you attended to them
and they felt relaxed to share almost their life with you.
Godfrey Times: Is it
bankable as a means of livelihood?
Miss Uyamagu: Of
course it is. So many youths I mean male and female are involved now. It’s an
everyday business thing and yes very bankable.
Godfrey times: I find
you have profound interest in Volleyball, how did this come about?
Miss Uyamagu: Volleyball
has always been my pride and my pet life, it’s my passion and strength.
Godfrey Times: You are exceptionally beautiful, men would be star-struck by your beauty…even
women and one of them is M’ballou Moussa-Traore, an ardent reader of
Godfreytimes from Guinea, Conakry. Who saw the introductory article on
Pinkpearl that was of course with your picture and said; Mon Dieu! She’s
beautiful…naturally you are a sight for sore eyes but what makes transforming
God’s given beauty essential?
Miss Uyamagu: Thank you!!! Naturally beauty has come to stay
whether we like it or not. However, adding one or two products to our face gives it a
glow. That is why we have different makeovers for different occasions. I can’t
contest with God on that (hahahahaa) natural beauty is still God’s gift no
doubt about that.
Godfrey Times: The Guinean stressed how well she loved your form of
transformation in a private message to Godfrey Times…correct me if am wrong,
should I say this skill derived from your intellectual property and not that
you went somewhere to get trained on the know-how?
Miss Uyamadu: At first it was my love for the transformation but no
matter how skillful and talented one is, the person must be guided to improve
more on his or her specialty. So it’s not just the intellectual property of the
individual because no man is an island.
Godfrey Times: What
would be your advice to youths?
Miss Uyamadu: For the youths, education is always the key to
success and any other thing follows. Within us there is a workshop the earlier
we find it the better for us. White collar jobs are nowhere to be found now so
let’s create it ourselves.
