The Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the compulsory retirement of I. A. Umezulike, chief judge of Enugu state, over alleged irregularities.
The council also sought the dismissal of Mohammed Tsamiya of the Ilorin division of the court of appeal over allegations of corruption.
Also recommended for sanction is Kabiru Auta, a judge of the high court of justice, Kano.
Auta is to be handed over to the assistant inspector-general of police, zone 1, Kano, for prosecution.
Soji Oye, spokesman of the council, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
The NJC recommended Auta for prosecution over an allegation that he collected N197 million from one Alhaji Kabiru, while Umezulike was sanctioned for allegedly delivering judgment in a case 126 days after final addresses were adopted by parties, and for other instances of abuse of office.
Umezulike allegedly received a donation of N10 million from Arthur Eze, a businessman, who had two cases in the judge’s court.
Tasmiya was accused of meeting with Nnamdi Oji, a party to a case before him, three times and on each occasion, demanding the sum of N200m to influence the court of appeal panel in Owerri, which sat on cases that arose from the 2015 general election.
