Songstress Simphiwe Dana has come out strongly against backlash from some Twitter users with the common belief that feminists ‘hate men.’
The ongoing debate took centre stage on Simphiwe’s Twitter timeline after she spoke out about how it’s time to move away from the belief that feminists hate men‚ every time the topic of gender inequality is discussed.
Simphiwe‚ who has never been shy to voice her opinion and speak out on the rights of women‚ made some strong points about feminism and the misconceptions surrounding it.
“Discussing gender with most black men is one of the most heartbreaking things you can do as a black woman. Comrades in arms on race issues‚ but less than human and equal when gender issues must be discussed‚” Simphiwe said on Twitter.
This sparked debate with some male users allegedly taking aim at the singer.
Over and over again, we insist feminism is not about hate for men. Yet time and again idiots insist it is. It's a silencing tactic
Woke up to more angry men lecturing me about feminism. So feminism is sexist for not revolving around them. Most heartbreaking
Simphiwe went on to add that this is the reason many women shy away from talking about the issue.
I suspect I'm gonna be harassed the whole day. Fun

The songbird believes that even though many of these men don’t really believe that feminists hate men‚ they just won’t let feminists get a foot in the door. “Therefore they have to discredit and ridicule feminism.”
